We've moved

I thought I'd take a little time to update you all on our current housing situation. We are still in the process of buying the house I've told you all about. We've been contacted by (what we believe to be) the closing agent, but haven't been able to reach her. If all goes well, we'll be closing in a matter of days.

In the meantime, we have moved all of our things out of our previous apartment and now reside in the house we're buying. It's a little strange to be renting from the sellers, but it was the only way to make things work out with the end of our lease at the previous apartment. The first day was spent painting, and we spent the next three moving NON-STOP.

Which brings me to my third point of discussion: I am utterly exhausted. There are boxes and random stuff everywhere. And we have to work this week. Life never slows down!

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN...

This morning I had a mishap with my car. The engine shut down while I was driving, and it was incidentally low on gas. Suspecting that the cause was low gas and resulting air in the fuel injection line, I decided to do a little internet research on the subject.

My search parameters on google were meant to be "What happens when air gets into the fuel injection line?", but when I began typing here are the options that popped up:

What happens when...

...you die

...you lose your virginity

...you crack your nuckles

...you quit smoking

...you swallow gum

...you prestige in modern warfare 2

...you smoke weed

...you have a miscarriage

Did anyone else find this humorous/interesting/telling/etc.?

Moving, planning, organizing

I had some fun this morning. Well, I've actually been "having fun" with this project for several weeks now. Matt and I have toiled over what to do with our furniture in the new house now that the space layout will be completely different than we've ever had before. The eat-in kitchen is huge, while the living room is smaller than any place we've been so far. Currently we have a couch, loveseat, recliner, piano, coffee table, and armoire (plus numerous bookcases). They all don't fit in the living room.

I've come up with plentiful possibilities for this space, but here is the final verdict:

Above you can see that the piano is in the kitchen, yes, the kitchen. I know that is strange. But we would rather have a living space that functions well for guests and for Kaitlin to play. There are other reasons I won't bother sharing as to why we chose this.

Here is the living room from a couple different angles:

(Recliner will be on left, then on wall immediately in front will be a couch with bookcases on either side. To the right, next to the window you can't see, will be the love seat.)

The color I have chosen is Valspar 3004-5C Hubbel House Golden Maize:

Unfortunately, this internet color swatch looks NOTHING like the chip I got from Lowes (in person it's more gold and less peachy). But here is the idea I'm going for:

Our couches are khaki, and our recliner, curtains, and living room rug are all dark brown.

Bits of my weekend ... Easter Edition

I slaved in the kitchen to make a few things:

1. Applesauce

2. Sweet potatoes (these two were for Kaitlin, of course)

3. For Matt and I, a pasta salad with roasted vegetables

4. "Gook" - this is a dip passed down from his family (with roquefort cheese and cream cheese). They have it on holidays, so I gave him a little taste of home.

Finished Products:

Orzo Pasta, Zucchini, Red Peppers, Red Onions, Sun-Dried Tomatoes (and some oil from jar), Balsamic Vinegar, and roasted chopped almonds
